Dr Benjamin P Trewin is a Sydney-based Neurologist and MS Neuroimmunologist with recognised expertise in autoimmune neurology and injury-related neurological conditions. He has substantial experience providing independent medical and medico-legal assessments, delivering clear, evidence-based and impartial expert opinions across a broad range of civil and statutory matters.

 

Dr Trewin is an experienced Independent Medical Examiner and Medical Assessor to the NSW Personal Injury Commission. He is SIRA-accredited to perform WorkCover Whole Person Impairment assessments for neurological disorders affecting the nervous system, spine and upper extremity, and is an Authorised Health Practitioner for Motor Accident (CTP) matters. His medico-legal work includes assessments relating to medical negligence, public liability, total and permanent disability (TPD) claims, fitness-for-work and capacity assessments, and complex neurological causation matters.

 

Alongside his medico-legal practice, Dr Trewin maintains an active clinical and academic profile. He has extensive experience managing migraine, post-concussion syndrome, post-traumatic headache and other neurological sequelae of injury, as well as complex autoimmune neurological conditions affecting the brain and spinal cord. His reports demonstrate careful consideration of diagnosis, causation, impairment, prognosis and functional capacity, supported by contemporary neurological evidence.

 

Dr Trewin completed his Bachelor of Applied Science (Exercise, Sport Science & Nutrition) in 2007 and MBBS in 2012 at the University of Sydney. He undertook specialist neurology training at St Vincent’s Hospital, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (Multiple Sclerosis & Neuroimmunology Fellowship), and Concord Repatriation General Hospital.

 

He completed a PhD in Neuroimmunology in 2024 and has published multiple first-author peer-reviewed articles in high-impact journals on MOG antibody disease (MOGAD), Neuromyelitis Optica and Autoimmune Encephalitis. He has also presented his research internationally, including an oral platform presentation at the European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis Annual Meeting (2024).

 

Dr Trewin is widely regarded for his meticulous attention to detail, balanced reasoning and clear written communication, making him a trusted expert in complex neurological medico-legal matters.
